Relaxing the mind and calming
Relaxing. The areas of today’s northern Thailand were inhabited for centuries by the people originating from southern China, India, Burma and Laos. Each of these cultures has carried with it a rich medical tradition, such as Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine or folk methods of healing the body and spirit.
The knowledge passed down from generation to generation was kept and improved by the monks. In the ancient kingdom of Lanna, they decided to systematize the knowledge that was collected for centuries. Under the supervision of Dr. Jivaka Komarabhacca, who was the court physician of the Buddha himself. The basic medical assumptions were introduced, which have become the cornerstone of Traditional Thai Medicine. Maps of the human body with selected channels of energy flow and marma points were carved on stone boards and are still kept in temples.
The school in the Wat Po temple
Incredibly relaxing treatments from the Lanna kingdom were developed by Buddhist monks in the province of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. It is performed by therapists from Thailand, the graduates of the famous massage school in the Wat Po temple. Their essential part consists of unique massages: traditional Thai, Burmese – using aromatic oils and herbs and therapeutic with herbal stamps, containing original Asian spices and flowers.
